Types Of Protective Orders
Under Virginia law, there are three types of protective orders available. These are legal documents granted by a court in order to protect a person from unwanted contact from another party. The three types of orders include:
- Emergency protective order, valid for only a few days
- Preliminary protective order, valid for 15 days or until a scheduled hearing
- Protective order, valid for up to two years
Protective orders often involve domestic disputes and the allegation of verbal abuse or the threat of physical harm. If you are facing wrongful allegations that led to a protective order against you or are unsure of your rights going forward, I can provide knowledgeable counsel.
I understand these situations are complex and can impact your life in various ways, including custody disputes and access to minor-aged children, and I will fight to protect your parental rights.
